The automotive world has been one that has experienced delays in a way that others haven’t. Most of the time a delay in the automotive world causes moans and groans, but is somewhat expected, especially when the delay is for a much anticipated model that could be the next great sports car from a boutique brand name or is expected to take over a segment. Regardless of the reason or the subject of the delays there is usually an understanding that the automaker ran into some problems during testing or the final production isn’t quite adding up to the numbers expected.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia is a car that has been delayed several times already, but this new 2017 model that was supposed to be offered earlier in the year. Finally the first model has come off the production line at the FCA plant in Piedimonte San Germano, Italy and is headed to Europe for a customer who has order this model and most assuredly paid a specific premium to have the first one ever built of this beautiful new car. Does this mean the floodgates are about to open up and we will see the Giulia much sooner than last we heard? Not at all.
The US bound models will still start being built in the late second quarter and then be shipped to our shores to have them available for sale by the end of the year to make a great final push at the end of 2016. The first models that will be made for the US will be the high performance Quadrifoglio models with the standard models coming later and even possibly after the New Year turns. This will give us a second model from Alfa Romeo to enjoy along with the 4C that has been fairly successful so far in the US.
The new Giulia Quadrifoglio will offer 505 horsepower and 443 lb.-ft. of torque and offer a sprint to sixty mph of only 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 191 mph. This is the car that made it around the Nurburgring track in only 7:39 and shows off a sexy and sleek style that we want to have sold in the US as a high performance sedan from one of the most highly respected names in the automobile industry. This is the car you want to enjoy when it’s time for any type of driving as it will certainly caress you as you drive.
The second model we will see in our dealerships will be the entry level model that is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that creates only 200 horsepower while using an eight-speed automatic transmissions. Even though this doesn’t sound exciting, Alfa promises this car will be just as followed as the higher model to make for a pair of cars that will spurn the sales for Alfa Romeo. As a company that is working toward being a volume exotic car company the Giulia will tell the tale of whether or not Alfa Romeo will be successful in this venture. Thankfully this car is finally coming off the production line for us to admire and discuss in great detail.
