Truck enthusiasts are a unique brand of people. Most have a loyalty to one particular brand regardless of what others have to offer. Knowing this when they started launching the Tundra, Toyota has gained a great deal of its own loyalty due mostly to the amazing reliability and resale value that is offered on all their vehicles. The Tundra shows up with some added sophistication over previous models, but still has powertrains that need some work in order to compete in the fuel mileage race. Even though this truck carries the Toyota badge, it has always been designed and built in America making it as much a domestic truck as the offerings from Ford, Dodge and GM. For 2015 the lineup drops the base V6 engine and keeps the two V8’s. A TRD Pro Off-Road model has been added for more capability when on trails and a storage tray can be found under the rear seats of double-cab models to add some great storage options.
With a suspension that is stiff and capable the Tundra is a great choice for riding off road and makes towing a load easy work. Add a dynamic steering system and a very quiet cabin and this truck is a serious joy to drive and ride inside. These control features allow the Tundra to be a fan favorite for towing capability as this is the truck that gained some popularity by towing the Space Shuttle over a bridge. Even though most drivers will not be towing anything quite that large, the Tundra offers capability that helps any work crew get the job done right the first time.
With two engine options to choose from the Tundra offers only V8 power for the entire 2015 lineup. The maximum towing capacity for the Tundra is 10,500 and the larger engine is actually E85 capable. The base engine offered for the Tundra comes in as a 4.6-liter V8 engine that shows up with 310 horsepower and 327 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that offers fuel numbers of 15 city/19 hwy mpg for the rear-wheel drive model and 14 city/18 hwy mpg in the four-wheel drive version of this powertrain.
The second and larger engine is a 5.7-liter V8 offering 381 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is also matched with the six-speed automatic transmission and shows up with fuel numbers of 13 city/18 hwy mpg for the rear-wheel drive version and 13 city/17 hwy mpg for the four-wheel drive version.
On the inside of this truck is found a great deal of space for even the taller of drivers to be able to stretch out and enjoy the ride. All materials are soft and enjoyable with supportive seats to enjoy the ride. The center console is adorned with a touch-screen infotainment system for owners to enjoy and have more control of the audio system as well as other read outs. All other controls are easy to find and understand making this a truck that can be driven right away without having to search for all the bells and whistles.
The outside of the Tundra has, for many years offered a very powerful and imposing appearance which actually has been impressive and attracting customers for many years. At the very base model the standard features offered on the Tundra include a rearview camera, power windows and locks, a 6.1-inch touch-screen infotainment system, USB and auxiliary ports, Bluetooth connectivity, a fabric trimmed 40/20/40 split fold down front bench seats with four-way adjustable driver and passenger seats and two years/25,000 of complimentary maintenance. This gives owners of even the base truck the knowledge they have some great equipment to choose from. Owners who are buying a work truck and want vinyl seats can have that feature on the truck as well, giving them the ability to keep the truck clean.
the optional features offered for the Tundra come in at the different trim levels. These features include a seven-inch touch screen infotainment system, a sliding rear window, a new under seat storage compartment, a premium audio and navigation system, leather trimmed and heated front bucket seats, 20-inch wheels, chrome mirrors and door handles and a power operated sliding rear window. For the top of the line Platinum and 1794 Edition heated and cooled front seats, a moonroof, a JBL premium audio system and blind spot monitoring are all added to this excellent truck. The TRD Pro Off-Road package adds Bilstein shocks, , TRD tuned springs with a two inch lift in front, a front skid plate and unique badging to this truck.
The Toyota Tundra base price starts out at just over $30,000 while the top of the line with all the bells and whistles will reach well over the $50,000 mark. With a ton of different trim offerings to choose from along with a several cab and bed configurations to select the Tundra is a truck that can be built to fit the owner very well and offer plenty of great features to enjoy the ride.
