The future of Buick could hinge on how well-received the new Electra lineup becomes. The 2025 Buick Electra E5 SUV will be the first to arrive.
This electrified Buick is already being sold in China, a market that embraces the premium qualities of this brand much more than we do in America. This new Buick electric SUV is the first powered by the Ultium battery platform, offering a similar performance and driving range as the Cadillac Lyriq. This means we should see strong driving range figures and good power while driving this impressive new model. The Electra E5 should arrive for the 2025 model year: here’s a little about this new electric Buick.
What should we expect of this electric Buick?
If the Electra E5 is similar to the Lyriq, it will bring us around 340 horsepower and as much as 300 miles of driving range on a single full charge. In terms of spaciousness, this new Buick should be as large as the Envision, which means plenty of room for a family of five to enjoy the drive together. We expect to see an impressive 30.0-inch curved infotainment display on the dashboard, which is another way this new EV is similar to a Cadillac, in this case, the Escalade.
Will the Electra E5 qualify for the tax credit?
Buick hasn’t announced whether the new 2025 Buick Electra E5 will be built in China and imported to North America or if it will be built in America. If this EV is imported from Asia, it won’t qualify for the federal EV tax credit, which could be a significant issue for potential customers, especially with the point-of-sale savings of this credit. Considering the starting price is expected to be around $50,000, the Electra E5 will qualify for the credit if it’s built here.
We should expect three trim levels
Many of the Buick SUVs offer three trims to give us the packaging and pricing structure desired. The trims used across the lineup are Preferred, Essence, and Avenir. The Avenir is the latest name used to signify a Buick that’s built to cross over into the luxury market without being called a luxury vehicle. Currently, we’re unsure what this new electric SUV will include, but that information should be available soon since the 2025 model year is right around the corner.
Check out that interior
The Buick Electra E5 is already on sale in China, which allows us to at least take an educated guess at what this new SUV will include. The cabin area is stylish and attractive, with two rows of seats for five people. The two-tone interior look gives this SUV a stylish look, and multi-colored interior ambient lighting allows you to have the custom look in the cabin that you want to enjoy. This SUV looks comfortable and impressive, with a large rear seat area. It could be a great choice in the compact SUV market, which is one of the most competitive for electric SUVs.
Tech you can enjoy
We expect to see a large screen dominating the Electra E5’s dashboard. This new screen should measure at least 30.0 inches and stretch most of the way across the dash. This curved screen should be touch-sensitive on the side where the infotainment functions are placed, while the left side of the screen will be the digital gauge display. Electra E5 owners should have a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot as part of the standard equipment along with the desired connectivity of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There should also be a wireless smartphone charging pad to give owners an easy way to leave charging cords behind where they belong.
For audiophiles, a Bose premium audio system should satisfy your listening desires, giving you the beautiful sounds you’ll want to hear while driving.
Good power for your drive
The standard version of the new Buick Electra E5 uses a 68-kWh battery that delivers good driving range for the base model. The long-range models will have a 79.7-kWh battery, which returns a better driving range for your ride. Of course, you’ll also enjoy single-motor and dual-motor models of this EV when it arrives. The power and range figures are still a mystery because we can’t rely on the CLTC figures, but they should be good enough for most drivers to enjoy a confident ride.
Will you choose the new 2025 Buick Electra E5 when it arrives? This new electric SUV could tell us a lot about the future of the Buick brand and its movement to an electric vehicle lineup.
