The Acura Integra returned to the market to revive a long-dead name for this brand. Some purists weren’t happy about the standard offering, but a new Type S could satisfy them.
The Integra name harkens back to the 1990s as a bold and impressive luxury sports car that was offered in several trim levels. Although most might forget the base versions and only point to the Type R model from that decade, there were at least three different trim levels. This sports sedan returned for the 2023 model year to give us a taste of what’s to come, but now dessert is served.
What will the 2024 model deliver?
This new Acura four-door sports sedan will wear the Type S badging and offer the driving experience to genuinely match the expectations of this name. This new model makes 320 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque while being only offered with a six-speed manual transmission. The engine under the hood of this new Integra is the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder model found in the Honda Civic Type R. Despite similarities, the Type S has more horsepower than the Civic and brings real Acura styling and driving qualities to the mix.
The Honda similarities are uncanny
The 2023 Acura Integra is a four-door sports sedan with the same powertrain as the Honda Civic Si. This gave us a taste of what was to come with an impressive performance-oriented luxury version of the platform. Now, the Type S model arrives with the same powertrain as the Civic Type R, but that’s where the similarities end. The Integra Type S is not a hot hatch, but the Civic Type R is. Thankfully, the Acura models offer expected styling and quality upgrades over the Honda versions.
How is this new model different from the base Integra?
The new Type S Integra brings a wider body, larger wheels and tires, a rear spoiler, and a much more menacing appearance to the track than what you find in the base version. The standard Integra appears to mostly be a typical compact sedan with lots of cool features and an attractive style, while the new Type S takes things up several notches, making it easy to see the similarities and differences between the two. This new Type S is certainly the dessert we’ve been waiting for Acura to serve up after dinner.
Expected qualities of this hot new Acura
Acura is well-known for offering an affordable entry price for its luxury vehicles. This has made it much easier for more drivers to enjoy what Acura brings to the market than models from Lexus, BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz. This new 2024 Acura Integra Type S shouldn’t be any different. It should come at a relatively affordable price, offer some impressive comfort elements, and provide owners with the amazing driving dynamics desired. The camouflage didn’t hide the car
Although automakers use the black and white swirled camouflage covering to hide certain styling details of their new cars, it’s hard for this Integra to hide on a track. This new car was previewed during the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona event, giving the audience a show car that could be one they want to see in their driveways soon. Through the camo covering, it was easy to see the aggressive build, sleek lines, and impressive exhaust system offered. This car might not be able to hide for much longer, and we don’t want it to try.
The anticipation of this new Acura is almost over
Can you have a luxury performance sedan at a great price? When the new Integra Type S arrives, the answer will be “yes.” Of course, the current Integra fits this description as well; we’ll be much happier seeing the new high-performance model. Those looking to make this new Acura part of their life must be capable of driving a manual-transmission car. The only transmission offered is a slick six-speed manual, which adds the engaging feeling you want during your drive in a real sports car.
