2019 Ford Taurus SHO One Souped-Up Sedan

You wouldn’t expect a used Ford Taurus to be a sleeper with a turbocharged V6 engine, but that’s exactly what the 2019 Taurus SHO is. It packs even more power than the EcoBoost Mustang from the same model year. Unlike the Mustang or any other sports car, the 2019 Ford Taurus SHO doesn’t look fast, but it is.

Affordable Used Ford

One of the best things about this sleeper of a used Ford Taurus is that it’s pretty affordable on the used market now. It’s like a Mustang in the form of a sedan and you can generally find them for sale at a price under $30,000, which is similar to what it sold for new. The Taurus SHO was from the final generation of the Ford Taurus. Not only is this car fast, but it’s also a pretty practical sedan.

The Ford Taurus SHO is the Taurus you’ve never heard of. It was made between 2010 and 2019 and featured a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that made 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. The SHO moniker stands for Super High Output and was originally a limited production model made between 1989 and 1999. It returned in 2010 and continued until the end of the Taurus model in 2019.

Fourth-Generation Ford Taurus SHO

The standard 2019 Ford Taurus also featured a V6 engine, but it made only 288 horsepower, which was no slouch, but fairly standard for a four-door sedan. However, the Taurus SHO added two turbochargers to the standard engine, which massively boosted the horsepower and torque. It has a zero to 60 MPH hour time of 5.2 seconds, making it a powerful sleeper car even in 2024.

To compare, the Ford Mustang EcoBoost from the same model year featured a 2.3-liter four-cylinder, but it only made 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. But the Mustang is a true sports car, and sitting next to one, you’d expect it to be fast. The Taurus SHO just looks like an average sedan.

The 2019 Ford Taurus SHO even stacks up competitively to the current base Mustang, which makes 315 horsepower. That’s still less than the 365 horsepower under the hood of the Taurus SHO.

Practical and Fast

The 2019 Ford Taurus SHO might be powerful and fast, but it’s still a practical four-door sedan. In fact, Ford didn’t change much about the interior of the SHO versus the Taurus base model. The standard cabin is basically the same on the SHO as it is on any other Taurus model from the fourth generation. There were a few extras though, like sports seats for the driver and passenger.

A few other modifications were made to the SHO as well. It featured larger wheels and a sport-tuned suspension, and the steering wheel differed from the regular Taurus. However, it still retained the regular model’s tech features, such as the Ford Sync 3 infotainment system.

The Ford Taurus SHO was discontinued along with the regular Taurus in March 2019. Ford discontinued several other cars as well to put more focus on crossovers and the Mustang.
