Buick has seen something for the future and created a new Buick Regal that gives us a bit of a change from what they’ve offered in the past.
The SUV models offered have surpassed the sedan market, but that doesn’t mean it’s ready to give up and go away at all. Instead of bringing us another typical sedan with a limited trunk that makes carrying cargo difficult, Buick changed the game with a new Regal Sportback for 2018 to offer us a model that’s more akin to a hatchback than a sedan while giving us the premium look and feel we admire.
Even though the new Buick Regal Sportback is a hatchback model, it doesn’t look like the typical hatchbacks you see on the road. Instead, this is a long and premium-built car that has the flexibility you want in the cargo bay but the sleek and smooth styling of the sedan build it’s based from. This is the premium alternative to the sedan that you’re used to and the answer to what you want to drive when you don’t want to join the SUV crowd and sit higher on the road.
While the new Sportback model of the Buick Regal is all-new for 2018, this is also a car that has more new stuff for us to enjoy. You can choose a higher powered GS variant from Buick, which is also new and capable of giving you a more exciting drive when you head out on the road. If you need to carry cargo along with you, the liftback door can swallow up the cargo in order to make sure you can have the ability to take what you need to with you when it’s time to head out on the road.
The Features for this New Model
As you look at the new Buick Regal Sportback, you’ll find four trims are offered which are base, Preferred, Preferred II, and Essence. The base model offers you a rearview camera, a trial membership of the OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi system, a basic infotainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen display, an audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB input. The Preferred model adds power front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto to give you more of what you’ll want when you’re driving around in the car that you love to enjoy on the road.
If you choose the Premium II trim, you’ll have the benefits of dual-zone climate controls, 18-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, a 40/20/40 split rear seat, a remote starter, an eight-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and ambient interior lighting. This is also the model you choose if you want to have AWD added to the mix. At the Essence trim, you will enjoy the leather upholstery and heated front seats. The options you can choose include a moonroof, parking sensors, Bose premium audio system, a navigation system, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warnings, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision alerts, and automatic emergency braking.
The Power You’re After
There are two engines you’ll find under the hood of the Buick Regal Sportback. The base engine that’s found for all but the GS model is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder which makes 250 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The torque is upgraded to 295 lb.-ft. for the AWD models. This engine is attached to a nine-speed automatic transmission for the FWD models and an eight-speed version for the AWD choices. The GS trim makes use of a 3.6-liter V6 engine which pumps the power to 310 horsepower and 282 lb.-ft. of torque for the drive that’s a bit more exciting for you.
