Hyundai is ready to show off its newest creation for the subcompact SUV market and that vehicle is the Kona. This little SUV is active and engaging on the road and while its already being sold in the Korea, we won’t see this SUV on our market until the early part of next year. Even so, we’ve seen some impressive models already testing on the market that has made it possible for us to form an opinion of this new SUV and so far the reviews are favorable for this great new crossover that we want to drive.
There will be two engines that are offered on this SUV. The first is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that offers up 147 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque while making use of a six-speed automatic transmission. The second powertrain offered will likely be the one you want to choose which will use a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and bring in 175 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine is expected to make use of the seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission that Hyundai is so enamored with in order to make the shifting smooth and easy to understand and enjoy on the road.
The chassis of this small SUV is firm and planted and feels familiar on the road. There is a part-time AWD system that can be added to the Kona in order to give you the right way to have the controls you need while not disturbing the fuel mileage you enjoy on this little SUV. Even though this stiff ride feeling is based upon the opinion of the Korean model, there’s not any information to tell us whether we’ll get a softer or stiffer model of this SUV in the US, but the AWD system will be offered for our benefit.
One thing we do worry about when we see a New Hyundai is what style it will come in. This SUV is a little bit of a funky design, but it’s not polarizing, which makes it a vehicle that more of us will enjoy looking at and may even describe the looks as those that can “grow on you”. There are some bright colors that can be chosen for those that want to have a showy model and there are other colors that make it a more subdued drive to make the new Kona an SUV that can be popular for every driver on the road.
As an SUV that will compete with the rest of the new foreign subcompact crossover SUVs on the road. This SUV will enter a market that has several models in place, but this one might be the one that does everything right and offers the power and performance you want to enjoy. Expect the new Kona to come in at an exceptionally affordable price in order to be the right one for you to have a great drive. Next year, we’ll get to see exactly what the Kona will be for us to have the drive and equipment we want to enjoy on the road.
