One of the cars that we have enjoyed and admired for years is the Aston Martin DB5. This is the car that was originally shown in the James Bond movies and it was one that we loved to witness and watch over the first few movies of the series. There have been several different ways this car has been built and copied over the years but the one that showed up in Geneva is one that gives a serious look back at a car that was one of the most famous in the world and started the partnership between the movie franchise and Aston Martin.
This new car that we got to see roll across the stage in Geneva is the 2017 David Brown Speedback GT. This car appears to be a restomod of the Aston Martin original, the DB5 but it’s a new and original car that we can enjoy. DBA is a British company that is a low volume automaker and has built this new car to offer an all-aluminum monocoque chassis with handmade aluminum body panels. This gives the Speedback a look and feel that certainly harkens back to the older times with a fresh and modern feel as well.
The power for the Speedback GT comes from a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that offers up 510 horsepower and 461 lb.-ft. of torque. This allows the car to be capable of reaching sixty mph in only 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Compared to some of the other impressive supercars that showed up in Geneva, this car is almost slow, but it’s certainly impressive and one that you might want to drive slow to show off to the world the amazing Speedback GT that looks like the Aston Martin DB5.
In order to keep things British for this car, the engine and underpinnings of the car are taken from the Jaguar XKR. This car will be built in a limited supply by DBA with only 100 being made. The starting price point for this car will be $602,895 before taxes, but for a car that’s this limited in numbers and gives you the modern feel and a classic good look this may be worth it to well over 100 customers who want to put a reserve on this car and be ready to pay when it’s time for delivery of the vehicle.
If you are one of the lucky few to be able to buy this car, you’ll have a ton of great bespoke options to choose from to make this a car that’s unlike any other, including the other 99 of the same model. This car is said to take over 7,200 hours to hand build and over 800 of those hours are dedicated to the paint alone. The Speedback GT was actually shown in prototype form in 2014 and now it is ready for those few who want to buy it and make it the car they drive occasionally when they want a special ride.
