The red Project Hardbody Nissan Frontier crossed the stage at the Chicago Auto Show, and everyone cheered.
Even though this was only one of the three concept truck models from this brand, the Hardbody received the most adulation. Based on the 2022 Frontierthe concept truck was a hit while adding a bit of inspiration from the Hardbody trucks that were famous in the 1980s. Adding to the glory was the set of Desert Runner wheels that give this truck the look of a midsize pickup ready to get out on the sand for some fun.
It’s Probably Only a Concept
The three truck concept models Nissan took to the Chicago Auto Show will likely remain concept models. They won’t see production but certainly could, especially the Project Hardbody version. The other two trucks were the Project 72X, inspired by the Datsun 720 pickup, and The Project Adventure model, based on the current PRO-4X trim. All three appear ready for some serious off-road adventures and showcase the overlanding capabilities built into the Frontier. We don’t need to wait with bated breath for these trucks to arrive; the current Frontier is a brand-new model.
A Chiseled Piece of Granite
If the truck from the 1980s was the Hardbody, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is an even harder body, making for a bit of a conundrum. This new truck has the toughest build we’ve seen in a Nisan since the Hardbody left the market. This is a midsize truck that brings you an impressive build, plenty of features, and the capabilities you desire. You’ll find two body sizes, King Cab and Crew Cab, and a pair of bed lengths to give you the setup you want when you’re ready to drive a tough and rugged truck.
The Frontier Can Go Everywhere
No matter where you end up in your Nissan truck, you can get out of it and go where you need to. This truck has the power you desire, gives you an excellent driving package, and handles the towing you need as well. This is the quietest Frontier ever made. The Nissan team added 41 new parts to decrease road noise that normally would enter the cabin. This makes for an impressive drive and one that you can enjoy every day. There’s something a little better about every part of this Nissan midsize pickup truck.
Experience a Comfortable Cabin from Nissan
Not many midsize trucks can boast comfort, but the Nisan Frontier can. This truck has the Zero Gravity seats we love, providing a strong blend of softness and lateral support to keep you feeling fresh on the road. The dashboard is simplified with a nine-inch touchscreen in the center stack to handle many of the control features you need. You’ll see storage areas throughout the cabin where you can keep your cell phone, drinks, and other items that you take when you head out for a drive.
More About the Build of this Truck
The body is substantial, and the build is impressive. You’ll love the look of the thickness that every area of this truck offers. Prominent lettering appears on the grille and tailgate to give you the reminder you need of what this truck has to offer. The Pro-4X model features a sharp-looking black grille to arrive with authority wherever you go. Find the right color from among the array of choices and let this impressive new truck take you wherever you want to go. The Frontier is ready for the ride; are you?

The Bed Gives You More than You Think
The bed area isn’t just a place for cargo in the Nissan Frontier. It’s also a place where your cargo is secure using the Utili-Track Channel System. This is a system of three bed-mounted rails, in the shape of a C, that make it easy to secure your cargo. Four fixed tie-down hooks aid this system, making it the perfect cargo system for your truck.
All Frontier Models Are Powered Right

If you select a 2WD version, you’ll have 18 city/24 hwy mpg while 4WD models reach 17 city/22 hwy mpg. You can carry up to 1,610 pounds of payload in the bed and tow as much as 6,720 pounds with this impressive truck.
