But, to stay relevant in today’s market, an automotive company must at least offer greener alternatives to its fleet of vehicles. In 2020, Jeep released the 4xe in hopes to break into the electric-hybrid scene. The car didn’t break records, by any means, but it was a good start in the company’s efforts toward eco-friendly driving. Same Model New Power
Consumers need to know that the 4xe is a Jeep Wrangler. That’s right, the most popular Jeep rendition has a hybrid option. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is supposed to be the same car but with a new power output, one that is electric, eco-friendly, and reusable. Jeep has a number of hybrid vehicles, but this one, the Wrangler 4xe, is by far the most popular, and most relevant.
But with a new power output system, there have to be big changes. The original Wrangler and this 4xe have to have a few key differences.
What’s the Same?
When it comes to the Jeep Wrangler, its ability to explore is by far the most important component. Thankfully, the original Wrangler and the 4xe are the same in this department. Jeep made sure that the Wronger 4xe is more than able to conquer the unpaved.
Similarly, both vehicles can tow up to 3,500 lbs and drive through up to 30 in of water. It’s important that Wronger be able to do these things, and if the 4xe couldn’t, well it just wouldn’t be a Wrangler.
As expected, there are some differences. The most obvious one, the 4xe is a hybrid. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe uses a 2.0L I4 DOHC direct-injection Turbo PHEV engine paired with a 17-kWh lithium-ion battery. Together, the 4xe gets 375 horsepower, which is more than plenty. Surprisingly, the hybrid 4xe gets more horsepower and more torque than the classic Wrangler. But is this enough to sway consumers?
On the flip side, the 4xe is much heavier because of its battery. This can affect off-roading and rock climbing significantly. But, according to reports, the 4xe does just fine in that department. That being said, the hybrid gets much better gas mileage than the classic Wrangler.
This proves the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is just as good as its fuel-powered counterpart. Is it the future of Jeep engineering? We’ll have to wait and see.
