It’s been no secret that the first of the new Hyundai N branded vehicles to be released in the world is the i30. The i30 N is a small, hatchback that’s considered the hot hatch from Hyundai which we’ll see sold in a variety of markets around the world, but not in the US. While we will first see the N performance sub-brand in the Veloster, there will be a close look you can enjoy when it comes to the i30 N and what it offers, especially if you’re interested in the track performance.
The new Hyundai i30 N will compete in the Tour Car Racing Class of the Pirelli World Challenge throughout this year, which means it will make its way to the US to compete in some races in the US. As a car that’s already popular and available in Europe, this racing class is perfect for this car and the series is set up to offer six races in the US where we can see how this car has been developed by Bryan Herta Autosport for the tracks around the world when the racing series makes it way to our shores.
Where can the i30 N be seen?
The power for the i30 N race car comes from a transverse-mounted 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 350 horsepower. This engine is attached to a six-speed sequential transmission while braking power comes from Brembo six-piston calipers and 15-inch brake discs up front with two-piston calipers in the rear. The weight of the car plus the driver comes out to a light 2,827 pounds in order to comply fully with TCR regulations. This car is ready to start screaming around the track to give us a look at what we can expect when the performance-oriented Veloster N is ready for sale.
There are six events where you can see this car make its way around the track in the US this season. These are the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX from March 23-25, the Virginia International Raceway from April 27-29, Lime Rock Park from May 25-28, before moving to the Portland International Raceway from July 13-15, the Utah Motorsports Campus from August 10-12, and then finally ending this run at Watkins Glen International Raceway from August 31 to September 2. Whichever one of these locations is closest to you could be the right place for you to see the car run around the track.
The drivers behind the wheel of the i30 N race cars will be Michael Lewis and Mark Wilkins to put the car through its paces and let it make its way near the front.
