The Honda Civic has been one of our favorite vehicles to drive for many decades, but for some reason the ninth generation of this car would be better left forgotten. This new tenth generation of the model that began in 2016 ushers in a model that brings backs the style, builds, performance and drive that we want to have from the Civic. You might think that Honda would settle in and allow this car to enjoy the success we want to see in this new version of this car, but Honda isn’t doing that at all.
For 2017 we see a new hatchback on the market to go along with the sedan and coupe. This gives us a Civic in a form that feels more fun and more energetic than the other two and allows us to have an additional choice to have the right drive. This car also now has a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine across the lineup to be paired with a manual transmission, providing us with the fun of driving that we want and the benefit of a great vehicle to have on the road. There are two more models that are ready to be offered and will come to the market soon in the form of the Civic Si and the Type R models that will bring us the performance we want to enjoy.
Under the hood the Civic starts with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as the base engine offering. This engine is mated to either a six-speed manual or a CVT automatic which is what’s used for the turbocharged engine as well. This base version gives us 158 horsepower and 138 lb.-ft. of torque to be a great place to start. When you move up to the turbocharged engine you will have a variety of power choices based upon the model you choose. The power starts at 174 horsepower and moves up to 177 for some of the trims while the top trim receives 180 ponies. The torque is the same way with lower models receiving 162 lb.-ft. and the higher trims enjoying 167 to have the low end power needed for the Civic.
Look to the standard features and you begin at the LX model which brings you automatic climate controls, a rearview camera, a folding rear seat, a four-speaker audio system with USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity and a five-inch screen for the infotainment system. Moving up to the EX you ca have an automatic transmission, a remote engine starter, a moonroof, the 60/40 split folding rear seat and an upgraded infotainment system that has a seven-inch touchscreen and the benefit of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Optional features for the Civic show up with the engine you can make use of, leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats, a navigation system, Honda’s LaneWatch system which is a camera based blind spot monitoring system, a power driver’s seat, dual zone automatic climate controls, and a suite of active safety features that make it much easier for you to enjoy the ride.
With so many different ways to dress up the Civic and have the ride you want to enjoy, you will love the Honda Sensing system which gives you adaptive cruise control with low speed follow, road departure mitigation, forward collision warnings, lane keeping assistance and a Collision Mitigation Braking System. The fact that we have a hatchback and a new turbocharged engine, make the Civic a vehicle that offers you a lot of variety. This car is one that you can love to drive on any road and know you have the car you should drive.
The Civic is a great car for you to love and now that Honda has made the commitment to make this car even better than before you can enjoy the fun of the drive and the experience of one of the most impressive cars on the market for you. This car is one that offers you the performance and the build that make it a uniquely popular compact car that we love to talk about and admire. Come see what makes the Civic the right car for you to drive when you visit your local Honda dealer and find out why we love the Civic so much.
