Just because an SUV shows up in the midsized category doesn’t mean it’s actually built with both sport and utility in mind. One of the main qualities of being able to give us the utility we want is a vehicle that can perform well not only on the road, but out in the wilderness as well. In the class that the Toyota 4Runner competes there aren’t very many SUVs that are capable on the trails as much as they are on the road. The 4Runner is one that certainly can handle the job of being both, great on and off the road so that you have the ride you want.
One of the main reasons the 4Runner is great off the road is the use of the TRD Pro Series features. This trim level offers you the benefit of Bilstein off road shocks, Nitto Terra Grappler tires and added skidplates. These added features help the 4Runner be an SUV that’s better where you want it to be than most are. This new trim is offered in three new colors; Cement, Barcelona Red and Super White. This sounds like a great package for you to enjoy and have the ride you want where you want it.
As far as functionality is concerned, the 4 Runner is one of the easiest SUV models to add to your family and know you have a vehicle that continues to perform for you. This SUV adds a power retractable rear window so that you can load and retrieve gear easier without having to put the entire liftgate up for the job. This is also a great item to use when the back window gets muddy or dirty out on the trails where it can become harder to see what you need to.
For the 4Runner there is only one powertrain that’s used to make this SUV perform the way it should. It starts with the 4.0-liter V6 engine that provides 270 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. of torque while being attached to a five-speed automatic transmission. You can choose from 2WD for the SR5 and Limited, partial 4WD in the SR5 and TRD or full time 4WD in the Limited model. The towing capacity of the 4 Runner comes in at 5,000 pounds which makes it possible for you to take a loaded trailer or a small boat with you wherever you need to go.
As a vehicle that we’ve loved for many years the 4Runner is an SUV that gives you six trims to choose from, SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off Road, TRD Off Road Premium, Limited and TRD Pro Series. The base model offers you the benefit of the Entune Audio Plus with Connected Navigation apps, Siri Eyes free, Bluetooth music streaming, a rearview camera and an eight-way power driver’s seat. The TRD models add the benefit of the 4WD system; bring in water resistant seat coverings, a locking rear differential and multi terrain select items with crawl control. The Limited model brings in the leather seats that are heated and ventilated up front, dual zone climate control, a 15-speaker JBL sound system with navigation, a moonroof, X-REAS automatic adjustable suspension and 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels.
The options for this SUV depend upon the trim levels. As you can see moving up the trims for the standard items brings you some impressive equipment to enjoy but you can add other items as well. Some of the options include a third row of seats, the 4WD on lower trims, the Entune premium audio with navigation on lower trims, and a sliding rear cargo deck. TRD models can benefit from the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System to allow the stabilizer bar to disconnect for more axle travel on the trails.
The Toyota 4Runner has been prowling the streets for many years and is one of our favorite SUVs to drive. The ride in this brute will let you have the fun of heading off road when you want while enjoying the impressive capability it has to offer when you’re on the paved paths. Come see your local Toyota dealer today and check out the 4Runner when you want impressive driving.
