The Kia Niro EV Adds More to the EV Market

The goal for Kia was to create the Niro in a variety of ways to make sure we can have the hybrid or EV model we want on the market. So far, we’ve seen the hybrid version and the plug-in hybrid models of the Kia Niro, with promises that the EV version was on its way. Finally, the wait is over and the new production-spec version of the Niro EV was shown off during its official debut in South Korea to give us an idea of what this model will be and how we should see it and enjoy the ride.

The concept model of this car was on display in January at the CES 2018 show in Las Vegas, but now we have the production model to talk about. As a change from the other two versions of the Niro, the EV model offers a completely aerodynamically optimized front fascia with the upper grill completely closed off. This little vehicle is one that can give you the drive you’re looking for and offer you the versatility of the cabin you need to make sure you can take items with you that you need.

The Power and the Fun of the Niro EV

As many new EV models have begun to offer us driving ranges that are greater than before, the Kia Niro is one that follows along and offers what we need. The North American version of this little car will be powered by a 64 kWh battery pack and a single electric motor. This system is expected to offer us a range of nearly 236 miles to ensure we can have the drive desired and the ride we want when it’s time to head out on the road.

The model of this EV that will be offered in Korea will use a 39.2 kWh battery that allows the range of 149 miles. There’s no information to tell us this version will make its way to North America so far. The new Niro Plug-In Hybrid will arrive soon and the EV will follow later this year to give us a pair of efficient models to enjoy. The hybrid version uses a 1.6-liter engine and an 8.9 kWh battery to give this car 36 miles of driving range before the gasoline engine begins to power the vehicle for the ride.

We’re sure to learn more about the new Kia Niro EV before it arrives on the market for the early part of the 2019 model year. As it shows up in production form at one of the auto shows later this year, we can enjoy more about what this little car will offer for our ride. The Kia Niro is certainly a departure from what we see on the market for most EV and hybrid models. Look for this vehicle to be one that will help add more to the EV market and be the choice of drivers across the country.
