There’s a new truck in town, at least there will be in 2027. The new Slate truck could change the automotive market in ways that haven’t been done recently.
Can you build your own truck? Doing this might be a lot like building your own meal at a restaurant. In this case, you’ll start with a vehicle that’s a completely blank template and build the truck from the ground up. Of course, you have to utilize the features, packaging, and options offered by Slate for its new truck. This new pickup will attempt to fill a niche part of the market that no other automaker has attempted to fill yet.
The secret truck is coming
The least-expensive electric vehicle on the market might be in jeopardy of losing its position. This new, small electric truck will start at $20,000, after incentives and rebates. Despite not arriving until 2027, it’s an interesting pickup that will be the first electric truck in the compact pickup class. That could make this new truck worth the wait, especially if you want a small truck that’s powered by electricity. This truck’s price tag is less than half the average price of most vehicles.
No other truck like it
The average price of new vehicles continues to rise, but not everyone can afford to spend nearly $50,000 on a new vehicle. Reports show that one in seven car shoppers would like to spend as little as $20,000 for a new vehicle. This is where the new Slate truck comes into the mix. This truck could be the answer to what you desire. If preorders are any indication, there are many shoppers looking for this small truck to be the right pickup to drive. Currently, the company has more than 100,000 pre-orders for this little pickup truck.
What does this truck include?
The build of this new truck makes it shorter than the Ford Maverick by two feet, but it still has a 5-foot bed, making it easy to use this pickup for hauling gear. There’s also a 7-cubic-foot frunk under the hood to give you a bit of extra cargo space. You’ll have to roll down the windows using manual cranks, but that means fewer moving parts and cheaper maintenance for this new vehicle.
The new Slate truck has what you need, with no extras. This is something you don’t find in the automotive market these days. There was a time when you could get the bare bones model of just about every vehicle on the market. The truck only has two seats, steel wheels, a climate control system, and a driving range of only 150 miles in the standard version.
If you think you might need more distance for driving, there’s an optional longer-range battery pack that increases the driving distance to 240 miles. Every version has only one electric motor that sends 201 horsepower to the wheels.
Slate adds driving aids
Despite being a bare-bones truck with very little to offer in terms of comfort and convenience, this new truck has a set of driver assistance features. Some of the features you’ll find in this truck are:
- Traction control
- Electronic stability control
- Pedestrian identification technology
- Forward collision warning
- Automatic emergency braking
- Airbags
- Automatic high beams
- Rearview camera
- Remote keyless entry
The new Slate truck has an RWD setup and low hauling and carrying figures at 1,400 pounds of payload and 1,000 pounds of towing. It can do truck stuff, but only in small quantities. These figures might be more than enough for some people.
Its highly customizable
This new truck is meant to give you the ability to customize it to your liking. In fact, it arrives unpainted, giving you the chance to choose a template wrap kit that fits the truck. This means you can have a wide variety of options when it comes to the color and style of your truck will show off when you get behind the wheel.
In addition to the customized colors you can choose from, Slate includes several other choices for you. You can choose a five-seat SUV conversion kit to turn it into a compact SUV, add a speaker bar that gives you a personal audio system, and a few other items. The beauty of this new electric truck is that it comes with everything you need, but if you want other items, you’ll need to check the right boxes and add those items to your pickup.
Will you drive the new Slate truck? No other electric vehicle is this affordable, but no other vehicle on the market is as bare bones as this new pickup.
