The Toyota Tundra has a loyal following and for many good reasons. This full-size pickup truck is strong, capable, and comes with everything you want and need in a pickup truck. The 2022 has some exciting changes, so take a look at the latest Tundra compared to the previous model.
The Powertrain
Whether you’re shopping for a new 2022 Tundra or a used truck from Toyota, the base powertrain is a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V-6 gas engine that delivers 389 horsepower. The big news for the new model is the hybrid powertrain. The hybrid setup has an electric motor integrated into the transmission, which allows the truck to use pure electric power at low speeds. This powertrain generates 437 horsepower and gets an impressive 583 pound-feet of torque, the highest in its class.
The 2022 Tundra has significantly greater towing power over the 2021 model. It can pull up to 12,000 pounds instead of the 10,200 pounds the older version can handle. The 2022 can also haul up to 1,940 pounds.
The Exterior Look
The redesigned exterior is the most noticeable change you’ll see in the 2022 Tundra. It has a new front grille that’s substantially larger than before and even has a different design depending on the trim you choose. Around the back, the tailgate is also updated. The 2022 version slants inward and has black accents. Additional exterior updates include a wide hood and bold fender flares to give the truck an aggressive stance.
The Tundra TRD Pro has some updates too. It comes with black alloy wheels, Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires, and it has black side steps. This trim also has Fox internal bypass shocks, a new TRD Pro front stabilizer bar, front skid plates, and red-painted suspension parts.
The Suspension
The 2022 Tundra rides on the TNGA platform, giving it a better ride, and providing enhanced off-road capabilities. The high-strength boxed, steel-ladder frame is stronger than ever and comes with an aluminum composite bed. Along with the new chassis, Toyota also changed up the suspension. It now comes with coil springs instead of the rear leaf springs you get with the 2021 model. These result in better handling, increased comfort, and more stability on and off the road. In addition to this upgraded suspension, the 2022 Tundra now offers an optional adaptive variable suspension.
The Upgraded Interior
Toyota didn’t forget about the Tundra’s interior. In addition to the updated exterior style and performance upgrades, it has new tech and features in the cabin. The new standard infotainment screen is an 8-inch multimedia system. It uses wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and offers an upgraded 14-inch touch screen that works much like a mobile phone or tablet with pinch and zoom functions. A 12.3-inch Multi-Information display for the driver is also available in the 2022 Tundra, along with over-the-air updates.
The Toyota Tundra received a complete makeover for the 2022 model year. It’s updated from top to bottom, inside and out, with more power, updated technology, and a bold new exterior design.
