Chevy Celebrates 70 Years of Corvette

So, how do you throw a birthday party for a car? Chevrolet is celebrating the Corvette’s milestone with a 70th Anniversary Edition. Let’s get a closer look at an icon that doesn’t look—or act—its age.

Time Flies, But Not as Fast as a Corvette

From its earliest moments on the drawing board, the Chevrolet Corvette was destined for stardom. Chevy’s answer to dreamy European roadsters like the Triumph was simultaneously classic and futuristic looking.

Its construction was futuristic, too. With the United States headed into conflict in Korea, steel was largely unavailable and cost dearly when automakers could get it. The 53 ‘Vette was the first all-fiberglass car “mass-produced” (only 300 were made that year) in the U.S.

When it debuted, this 150-horsepower stunner immediately got hearts racing. A phenomenon that carries through to today.

So, What’s in the 70th Anniversary Package?

The full 70th Anniversary Edition package is expected to be available on the Stingray 3LT and Z06 3LZ models. However, all 2023 Corvettes, regardless of trim, will include a commemorative anniversary plaque in the cabin just below the center speaker. They’ll also have a graphic placed on the lower rear window.

The package itself is primarily cosmetic: Chevy has no confirmed plans for performance enhancements, given this is the first model year for the Z06 and its beefy 670-horsepower engine. Here’s what you’ll find:

Gift Bags for the Birthday Party Guests

If driving into the sunset in a legendary sports coupe isn’t enough, Chevy is offering a set of custom luggage when buyers choose the 70th Anniversary Package. The bags have the same red stitching as the Corvette interior and display the 70th Anniversary Edition logo.

So, How About Pricing?

Chevrolet hasn’t released pricing information for the 70th Anniversary Edition package. We expect that information will be available later this year when Chevy starts production on the 2023 Corvette and they show up at your local Chevrolet dealer.

Helping U.S. Military Families

The first of the 70th Anniversary Edition Corvettes (VIN 001) is scheduled to be auctioned off January 29 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale. Proceeds from the auction will go to Operation Homefront, an organization that helps military families.

The Stuff Dreams are Made Of

The Chevy Corvette has been capturing imaginations for seven decades. Every generation has had a collectible model, from the 1967 Corvette L88 to the high-performance 1971 ZR1. Will the Z06 with the Corvette 70th Anniversary Edition package join the ranks of highly coveted ‘Vettes? Time will tell.
