A Smaller Engine for the Jeep Renegade

A Smaller Engine for the Jeep Renegade

The Jeep Renegade is the smallest SUV offered by the brand and it’s one of the few that can handle driving on light trails in the wilderness.

Even so, Jeep hasn’t given up on it and has built the new 2019 model with a new powertrain and a few new technology items to give us more of what we want in a small SUV. Toss in a new front fascia and you’ve got a Jeep that looks great and offers you the impressive qualities you’re looking for when you take a drive.

The New Engine with More Power

The Jeep Renegade has been an SUV that has been able to show us that smaller can be better for many years. The new engine offered is now a 1.3-liter model that’s going to be offered as the standard power plant for the Limited and Trailhawk models. This engine brings you 177 horsepower and 200 lb.-ft. of torque which is an increase from 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque that was offered in the larger base engine that was offered in the previous version of the Renegade. This new engine offers a smoother power curve to give you the responsiveness you want.

The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that we’ve seen in the past is still being offered for the Renegade and this engine offers an increase in power as well. This engine now brings us 180 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque for the drive while giving us the fuel mileage of 22 city/31 hwy mpg in FWD models while the AWD versions will give you 21 city/29 hwy mpg when you drive. All engines are attached to a nine-speed automatic transmission to give you the smooth driving performance that you want when you drive.

The Right Stuff in the Renegade

The Jeep Renegade offers you 6.7-inches of ground clearance in FWD models and eight-inches in AWD models. The Trailhawk version increases this clearance to 8.7-inches to give you room to ride on the trails over some obstacles. There are active grille shutters and a stop-start system that brings you better gas mileage for the drive. You can enjoy the benefits of LED headlights, daytime running lights, cornering fog lamps, and taillights for the drive. Add the Advanced Tech Group and you’ll have the added benefits of adaptive cruise control, parking assistance, and front parking sensors for your drive.
