A Comprehensive Look at the New Chevrolet Equinox

The Chevrolet Equinox is back for one more year in the current generation before a full redesign is due in 2025. For 2024, an EV model is available, but otherwise, the only tweaks include some exterior modifications and a few extra driving aids. The current Equinox generation debuted in 2018 and was refreshed in 2022.

Equinox Specs at a Glance

The Equinox EV is essentially its own model, so it won’t be included here. The regular Equinox comes in four trims–the LS, LT, RS, and Premier. The only engine available on the new Chevrolet Equinox is a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder that makes 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque. You can get the Equinox in either a FWD or AWD layout.

The price range of the Chevrolet Equinox starts at $27,995 and goes up to $34,795 for the top trim. It offers a max towing capacity of 1,500 pounds and a payload capacity of 1,190 pounds. The Equinox is affordable, safe, and reliable. It boasts generous cargo space and AWD is available in every trim.

What’s New on the 2024 Model?

For the most part, the Chevrolet Equinox is unchanged from the previous model. It does add a few new exterior colors and some extra driver aids, but a full redesign is on the horizon for 2025 as an all-new Equinox is expected to launch at the end of 2024. Meanwhile, buyers can choose from two new blue paint colors.

The Driver Confidence II package is now standard on all but the base trim, but it can be added as optional equipment on the base trim. The package also adds several new features, including Lane Change Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Park Assist.

Performance Capability

The only available engine on the Chevrolet Equinox is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder introduced in 2023. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The current engine received a boost of five horsepower over the outgoing engine, but the torque output remains the same. AWD is available with any trim level, but it has to be activated manually when needed.

The Equinox doesn’t offer much towing power. Its rating of 1,500 pounds is enough to tow a small trailer or personal watercraft. The crossover also offers little off-road capability. If you have AWD and 18-inch wheels, you’ll enjoy eight inches of ground clearance, but otherwise, the Equinox can handle wintry road conditions and that’s about it.

Interior Comfort and Features

Inside, the Chevrolet Equinox is comfortable and modern. For the new model, heated front seats are standard on all trims except the base trim. The LT and RS trims get a standard power liftgate, while the Premier trim has a hands-free power liftgate. The rear seats are flat and supportive with plenty of room for three passengers. The rear seats can be folded 40/60 to add cargo capacity in the back.

A seven-inch infotainment display is standard on most trims, but an eight-inch display is standard on the Premier trim and available on the others. Smartphone connectivity is standard across trims, and the Premier offers mobile charging of compatible phones.

Ultimately, the new Chevrolet Equinox is a practical and reliable crossover. With an all-new model coming soon, you can probably expect some nice deals on the outgoing one later in the year.
