2020 Ford Explorer Leads the Pack of SUVs

The awaited arrival of the 2020 Ford Explorer has finally ended and we now know more about this SUV than we had in the past. As a name we’ve trusted for many years, the Explorer shows off with a shape that’s impressive and qualities we’re sure to admire including the fact that it uses a rear-drive platform instead of the FWD layout that some of the competition makes use of. When compared to the Chevrolet Traverse, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Palisade, Subaru Ascent, and Toyota Highlander, the question arises of whether or not the Ford Explorer leads the charge.

The Power Under the Hood

When it comes to the power numbers, as you can see from the chart below, the Traverse uses a V6 engine that’s only slightly more powerful than the four-cylinder engine of the Explorer. Keep in mind, the 2020 Ford Explorer also uses a V6 engine as the top engine to offer even more power, making this SUV that leader in this class by far. The power offered for this impressive new SUV allows for up to 5,600 pounds of towing, which is the most in this group of SUVs.

The Drivetrain Conversation in the 2020 Ford Explorer

As the only member of this group to have an RWD layout, the Ford Explorer has a differentiating factor to give us an amazing drive. The Dodge Durango is the only other three-row non-luxury SUV to offer this same layout for the drive. This allows the Explorer to feel more competent on the road and make it easy for you to enjoy the drive. If you choose the more powerful engine, you’re going to have AWD as part of the standard package while the smaller engine allows you to enjoy AWD as an option that you can select and enjoy on the roads and trails.

Space You Need in Your SUV

When you look at this group of SUVs and consider the size you need for passengers and cargo, the leader is the Chevrolet Traverse. Even so, the Ford Explorer has grown to be much closer to the Traverse than it was in the past. The interior is roomy and gives you a great place to offer the comfort you want for your passengers. Behind the third row of seats is 18.2 cubic feet of cargo area where you can fit the gear and luggage you need.

2020 Ford Explorer Offers Excellent Safety Technology

There are advanced safety features that you’re going to admire in the new 2020 Ford Explorer. While we don’t have the full breakdown yet, this SUV does come standard with the Co-Pilot360 suite of features that include forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, automatic high beams, and a rearview camera. The competitors mostly come with similar suites of features, but the Explorer has the most advanced safety features in this package to give you the items you’re looking for. If you’re looking for the right three-row SUV, the 2020 Ford Explorer can be a perfect choice.
