05.05.16 - Rimac Concept_One

We know about Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and even McLaren. These four are supercar companies that stay at the top or near the top of our lists at all times but what we forget about are some of the other companies in the world that are making supercars as well. Possibly it’s because these boutique companies are only creating a handful of each of their creations or some of them have faced tough financial times and we feel like they have been dissolved. Either way the supercars we don’t think about are some of the most fascinating and attractive on the market to give us a look at what the automotive industry is capable of offering.

DS E-TenseDid you know Citroen had a luxury brand? While mostly sold locally the DS name is the luxury brand from this well-known automaker. The E-Tense happens to be a car that garners your attention not only for being a great supercar but one that is an EV. This car offers a wonderful 402 horsepower and 381 lb.-ft. of torque with a driving range of 193 miles on a full charge that can reach as much as 224 miles depending upon the driver. For an EV the weight of this car is light at 3,600 pounds thanks to the carbon fiber monocoque chassis. The expectation is DS will start selling cars in the US which means we may see a few of these beauties.

Trion Nemesis RRWith an amazingly aggressive style and gorgeous lines that give you a front end that looks angrier than anything else on the road the Nemesis RR is aptly named. This is a supercar that has been developed in the US with arrogance and pure speed in mind. Powered by a 9.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine this car can make 2,000 (yes, 2,000) horsepower and reach a top speed of 270 mph while reaching sixty mph in only 2.8 seconds to be lightning fast.

Apollo ArrowA name change and some new investors have helped to change the Gumpert brand in to the Apollo brand which is much more appealing. Using a 4.0-liter twin turbocharged V8 engine that cranks out 1,000 horsepower and 740 lb.-ft. of torque this car is a speed monster. The looks are amazing as well, which was a problem for Gumpert, as this car has been inspired by sharks to be one amazing supercar.

Zenvo TS1The Zenvo name brought some wary looks from those who remember the disaster on the Top Gear segment that features the ST1. Even though rebuttals were made it seemed Zenvo was whining more than winning with the showing it displayed. In order to change the story they have now given us the TS1 which will have a new engine, the 5.9-liter twin supercharged V8 that we unfortunately don’t have the specs on yet but will be interested to learn about. This car will be ultra-exclusive as only fifteen will be made and sold in total.

Marussia B2This car looks more like it belongs in a Batman movie or in a Need for Speed video game but it’s actually been built by this Russian company to be an aggressive supercar. The B2 is built on the same framework as the preceding B1 and it’s powered by a 3.5-liter Cosworth V6 engine that can give you a range from 245 to 420 horsepower. That might not sound like much considering the four digit numbers we are seeing, but this lightweight car is super-fast and can handle the track with ease to be a challenge for others to beat.

W Motors Fenyr SupersportThe W Motors company has made some noise recently because their Lykan Hypersport car was featured in the Fast and Furious 7 movie but the company actually has a car that is even more insane than that one. The Fenyr Supersport is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat six-cylinder engine with 900 horsepower and 885 lb.-ft. of torque. This gives you a time to sixty mph of less than 2.7 seconds and a more track focused design than the Lykan version. There will only be 25 of these ever produced, making them exclusive and extremely desirable.

Mazzanti EvantraThis is a name we haven’t heard before, which is a bit of a surprise since its and Italian supercar company. The Evantra was originally shown at the Top Marques Show in Monaco in 2013 and is built at a limit of only five per year. The power for this beauty comes from a turbocharged six-cylinder engine that makes up to 600 horsepower or a 7.0-litre V8 that makes 701 horsepower and 625 lb.-ft. of torque. At only 2,870 pounds this car can reach sixty mph in only 3.2 seconds to be a seriously fast car to drive.

Rimac Concept_OneComing from Croatia of all places the Rimac Concept_One shows off with glorious design elements and with battery engineering to give us an electric vehicle that is also a supercar. The Concept_One is capable of 1,073 horsepower and 1,180 lb.-ft. of torque coming from 8,450 lithium-ion battery cells. The range expected for this car is around 205 miles from a full charge and the overall weight shows up at 4,080 pounds. If that’s not enough for you there is also the Concept S which has 1,365 horsepower and 1,328 lb.-ft. of torque while bringing a weight that is 120 pounds less than the Concept_One to make for a seriously formidable pair.

Arash AF10This company thought of several customers when building this supercar. With beautiful racing lines the AF10 shows up with a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that is aided by four electric motors to make 2,080 horsepower and 1,682 lb.-ft. of torque. Customers get to choose either a six-speed manual or a paddle shifting automatic transmission. The cost for this setup is $1.6 million, but a lower-priced offering is available for $495,000 that has a V8 engine that makes 550 horsepower instead of the insanity that is the AF10.

Devel SixteenWhat do you get with the SR-71 Blackbird is turned into a car; the Devel Sixteen. This car is powered by a massive 12.3-liter quad turbocharged V16 engine that was able to produce 4,515 horsepower on a dyno. This car claims 5,000 horsepower and the ability to reach sixty mph in 1.8 seconds with a top speed of 350 mph. Will this ca really go that fast; we won’t know until its put to the test but you can be sure I will follow this car closely and see if it really can reach those insane numbers.
