Nissan Titan

The Nissan Titan is Nissan’s answer to the need to compete in the American truck market.  Since its launch, the Titan has turned heads and pleased eyes by offering a bold look, lots of power, and comfort for the entire crew.

Unfortunately it has been a few years since the Titan has undergone a full upgrade and it is certainly overdue.  Talks are already in place to offer a redesigned and upgraded model in either 2015 or 2016, but for the time being the Titan does have some seriously special features.

The Titan is really the only truck made by a foreign automaker that competes with the jewels offered by GM, Dodge, and Ford.  Built with massive and insane strength in mind, Nissan achieved what truck owners’ desire, power, making other automakers sweat and turn green with jealousy.  Unfortunately, one of the major drawbacks of the Nissan Titan is the lack of variations, making the Titan audience much smaller than those of the other truck makers.

One of these lacks of variations is under the hood.  The 5.6 liter V8 is an awesome power plant for any truck providing 317horsepower with 385 lb-ft torque.  Even with this fantastic engine to work with, someone looking for some fuel economy needs to shop elsewhere.  This Titan engine is the only one available with the only difference being the 4×2 and 4×4 options.  With a 4×2 Titan the fuel mileage runs 13 city/18 hwy and for the 4×4 it drops slightly to 12 city/17 hwy.

The Titan option packages come into play for the interior of the vehicle, offering four variations of creature comfort: S, SV, PRO-4X and SL.  With these differing option packages, any Titan owner can choose from a basic to luxury as well as options for different storage packaged in the backseat and the bed.  With these four options available the Titan ranges in price from $30,265 on up to $45,000, a reasonable price range for the varying trim packages.

One great feature for the Titan shoppers is even the most basic model offers the Crew Cab giving owners and crew the ability to make the ride to the jobsite comfortably.  All models of Titan offer air conditioning, a 6-speaker CD player and 4-wheel-anit-lock brakes.  For the basic S model, not in the King Cab version, the Titan does include power windows and door locks as well.

In the next step, the SV model for an increase from $30,265 on up to $32,695, a Titan owner can add cruise control, remote keyless entry, an auxiliary jack in the stereo and 18-inch alloy wheels.  The cruise control and auxiliary jack alone are enough to warrant this price increase and are well worth the extra cash.

Titan’s next model, the PRO-4X is only available in a 4-wheel drive version and is specially made for the off-road enthusiast.  Adding to the SV model features such as skid plates, a heftier suspension, and locking rear differential to aid in the off-road experience the PRO-4X also brings a bit of tech along with Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and audio controls built into the steering wheel.  Add to all this rear obstacle-detection system and power driver’s seat and the PRO-4X model is a really great off-road ready truck at a price of $38,485.

At the top of the heap is the Titan SL which is only offered in the Crew Cab style.  Adding to the creature comforts this model is equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery with heated front seats, dual power front seats, power adjustable pedals, a Rockford Fosgate audio system and a navigation system equipped with NissanConnect.  All these additions bring the price tag to a still acceptable $41,485, not too bad for a fully equipped and great work truck.

As a work truck for a full crew, load and day on the job, the Titan compares favorably with all the best work trucks GM, Dodge, and Ford have to offer.  On the other hand, if a daily commuter is needed, and will only need to haul loads occasionally, it’s better to look at one of the American competitors.
