A Look Back at Mazda at SEMA

03.01.17 - Mazda MX-5 Miata RF Kuro Concept

The past two SEMA shows have been the hotbeds for Mazda to show off some of what it can do to create the impressive performance that’s needed when you have one of the most fun cars to drive with the low power numbers of the Mazda MX-5 Miata. For the Miata to continue to be the fun car you want to drive, there has to be some variations that could make you want to get behind the wheel and see what each one of the different Miata models can do and how the changes made help to create the improved performance that we want to enjoy.

02.13.17 - Tokyo Auto Salon

We have our SEMA Show each year and Japan has the Tokyo Auto Salon. This is the show where the best of the tuning scene get to show off the work they’ve put in over the course of a year to allow us to see just how creative they can be with the various vehicles they’ve tuned up. Similar to the SEMA show, OEMs are getting in on the action with their own version of the tuned cars they have to offer to show us exactly what they have to offer as added features to some models.

Sedans We Don’t Think of Often

Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup

BMW has led the charge for great driving sedans since the 1980s when they showed up with the M3.  Others have followed with their own performance variants, but we often don’t think of them because of the notoriety of the M3 and the AMG performance models from Mercedes-Benz.  Even though these might not be your typical choice for a performance sedan, they can all give you the drive and performance you want in order to be great cars to own.  With that in mind I offer you ten sedans you should consider although many are going to be models of the past, but it’s still worth a look.

2014 Mazda 5: The Look of a Minivan But Not the Size

2014 Mazda 5

In the Mazda tradition of offering interesting as well as reliable vehicles for shoppers to enjoy, the Mazda 5 is very unique indeed. Coming in with a size that is only about as large as a compact sedan, the Mazda 5 has a sliding side door like a minivan but sits on a car platform. This vehicle is taller than a typical sedan and offers the ability to load bulky items in the rear with the tall rear lift gate access, but only offers a seating arrangement for up to six in the vehicle. Along with all this the Mazda mantra of “zoom zoom” rings true with the Mazda 5 by offering plenty of fun while driving.

Virtually unchanged from the 2013 models, the Mazda 5 is not the typical “mom-mobile” minivan but rather a smaller, sleeker, better handling vehicle that allows owners to know they made a great choice because of the easy to love handling and zippy acceleration. The only real knocks on this vehicle is the lack of electronic upgrades. The sliding doors do not offer a power option, and there is no touch screen to add for infotainment or navigation. This vehicle also does not offer a V6 at all, but it is otherwise a great car to drive.

Bringing Excitement with the Mazda 6

2014 Mazda 6

The brand new, completely redesigned 2014 Mazda 6 is one of the most exciting car offerings of this model year. Having gained a loyal following over the years with its great handling and exterior style, the newly designed car offers fuel economy better than ever before as well as some fantastic technologies to fill the bill any owner would be looking for in a mid-sized sedan.

Not only is the Mazda 6 completely redesigned and retooled but this car went to the daring by cutting out the six cylinder engine in chasing a vast amount of fuel economy and power combined in one. In addition to creating a great car with a smaller more efficient engine, the Mazda 6 also comes equipped with a ton of great safety technologies to really help keep the occupants as safe as possible. So much are the safety features that the car earned the attention of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and won the award for Top Safety Pick Plus in the Mid-Sized Sedan category when the vehicle is equipped with the optional front crash prevention equipment.
